Loud Alarm Clock alternative: Loud Alarm Clock vs Alarm Clock Planner
Loud Alarm Clock is built around one idea: sounds louder than the built-in tones. In our test the loudness came with a catch: with the app closed, the alarm played with nothing on screen to say what it was or how to stop it. Its last update was in February 2025.*
Pick Loud Alarm Clock if you want volume-boosted sounds and voices that nag you out of bed, and it has been working for you.
Pick Alarm Clock Planner if you want an alarm you can see and stop the moment it rings, ringing through Silent and Focus with the app closed, from an app that is still updated.

Where Loud Alarm Clock is stronger
Louder sounds
Volume-boosted tones, and a random sound each morning so you do not get used to one. Both read better in a listing than they feel at 6 AM. Louder mostly makes the jolt harsher, not the waking easier, and a different sound every morning means you never learn the one that means 'get up'. In our test it also turned the phone's volume up by itself with nothing on screen, so it took a trip to Notification Centre to find what was ringing.
Voices that nag you
Its listing promises character voices, Stewie and Hermione among them, that tell you off if you keep snoozing. Funny the first week; after that they are one more noise to sleep through.
Where Alarm Clock Planner is stronger
You see what is ringing
An Alarm Clock Planner alarm rings full screen with its name, a Snooze button and a slide to stop, the same way Apple does it with their Clock app. Loud Alarm Clock does not use Apple's native alarms, and several recent reviews describe alarms missed because the app had closed overnight or an ad was playing at alarm time.
Still updated
Updated in October 2026. Loud Alarm Clock's last update was on 15 February 2025.
A sound you know
Pick one of 19 built-in sounds, or any audio file from the Files app, and give each tag its own, so a work day and a flight day sound different. It plays full screen with the alarm's name, so you know at once what is ringing and why.
A snooze that suits you
Choose a snooze from 1 to 30 minutes, per tag if you like, and cap how many times you can snooze, which does the job of a snooze cut-off.
Dates, tags and naps
Alarms for any date, monthly and yearly repeats, tags and one-tap naps.

What we saw using Loud Alarm Clock
From 20 to 23 October 2026, on an iPhone 11 Pro Max with iOS 27.0.1, on an EU App Store account.†
- Its alarm list has an ad card sitting between the alarms.
- With the app closed, the alarm started playing with nothing on screen. The only sign was the iOS volume slider as the app turned itself up, and we had to open Notification Centre to work out which app it was.
What Alarm Clock Planner does not do
- Boost the volume. Pick one of 19 built-in sounds, or import any audio file from the Files app if you want something harsher.
- Ring with nothing on screen. Every alarm shows full screen, so you know at once what is ringing and how to stop it.
- 0 ads, even in the free version.
What recent reviews of Loud Alarm Clock mention
From US App Store reviews of Loud Alarm Clock read on 23 October 2026 (most recent and most helpful). These are individual experiences, not tests we ran, but these themes came up more than once:
- alarms missed because an ad was playing at alarm time
- the app closing itself overnight, so the alarm never rang
- alarms that did not sound on some mornings
Pricing
Loud Alarm Clock is free with ads, one of them a card in the middle of the alarm list in our test, plus a $7.99 Super Sleeper purchase (US); its listing does not say whether that is one-time. Alarm Clock Planner's free version has 0 ads and holds up to 3 alarms at a time; unlimited alarms are $2.99 a year or $9.99 once.

* We make Alarm Clock Planner, so weigh our view accordingly. Facts about the other apps come from their US App Store listings, privacy policies and public US reviews, checked on 23 October 2026, and from using each app ourselves. Versions compared: Loud Alarm Clock 54.0, Alarm Clock Planner 1.3.4.
** US App Store prices. The US list does not name plan lengths, so a plan's length comes from the app's own upgrade screen, and a US price is used only where it clearly matches that plan. “Cost for one year if subscribed” is the cheapest plan that covers 12 months. A mark on “Pay once” only says whether a one-time unlock exists; “2.5× ours” compares a price with Alarm Clock Planner's $9.99 once or $2.99 a year. Two prices are estimates, marked “about”, because the US list does not show them: Alarmy's lifetime plan (Alarmy charges the same number in dollars and euros, as its yearly plan shows, so we took the figure from its upgrade screen) and Sleep Cycle's yearly plan.
*** From each listing, checked on our own iPhone: iOS Settings shows an Alarms switch for apps that use Apple's native alarms (AlarmKit, iOS 26 and later), and we let an alarm ring with each app closed where the app let us set one. A cross means it does not use them: the app has to stay open, or it alerts through notifications, which are short and, unless they are Critical Alerts, follow the Silent switch.
† What we saw using each app ourselves, 20 to 23 October 2026, on an iPhone 11 Pro Max with iOS 27.0.1, on an EU App Store account. Ads and offers can differ by country and change over time. On “Set alarms without paying”, a tick means free with no ads, amber means free with ads or without the native alarm, and a cross means a payment or a trial comes first.
